It’s all about the climb, as you are challenged to 'push past the burn' and run or walk up scenic Mount Keira Road to the breathtaking summit 'coastal vista' finish and assist us give a voice to PTSD.

Less than 85km south of Sydney, Mount Keira over looks the spectacular coastal city of Wollongong and Illawarra coastline.

Experience a traffic free peaceful landscaped run among among the escarpment mountain, the vista finish – and yet literally minutes from the beach, city and cafes…

Map & Profile

A safe, and scenic road course awaits. Moderate gradient making it achievable, with a
tough finish to burn the legs, making the scenic vista finish the perfect reward.

5k Course:

Begins at Mount Keira Demonstration School. Winding road in the trees for the initial 4km on a mostly gentile to moderate gradient. At Queen Elizabeth drive (final 1km) the legs will burn as you head up and up (couple steep inclines) to the breathtaking and rewarding scenic vista finish. 

10km Course:

The same as 5k, with a U turn prior to the final kilometer (4km mark) and heads back down for 2.5km, than another U turn and this time is all up to the finish! Total elevation 400m, a great burner but achievable and fun

Can anyone enter? 

YES! Keira Challenge Fun Run and Walk is open to wider public. You can walk, jog, run or race with both recreational and the more competitive take part. Families and all ages. Free shuttle bus return and loads of fun..

ON DAY: Check In

Once you have paid all you need to do is turn up at event start and 'Check In' (or enter on the day). All participants are required to attend the registration between 8:30am and 9:30am at Mt Keira Demonstration School to collect your official entry bib and time chip. All details on the website.

WEATHER?

It's planned to be ON ALL WEATHER (unless extreme) so be prepared and wear appropriate gear.

Road Closures : Services

The road is closed so its all for you..

Plus services as water stations / first aid / refreshment at finish / coffee and BBQ (bring some cash) / clothing transport to look out / return shuttle bus / entertainment / fun atmosphere and more!

Entry Fees:

Late (On day registration)

Will be accepted: 8:30am-9:30am at registration. Incurs at $5 late fee.

Parking: 

There is ample nearby on street parking (allow few minutes to park and walk up to the start).

Baggage, Return Shuttle, Finish Services

Baggage Service is included - you can leave your personal belongings/change of gear in the trailer (at start line) for transport to the summit.                        

Finish Services

At the summit you will cross the finish line and enjoy a fulfilling experience with refreshments, first aid and water being provided. Bring some spare change to enjoy a coffee, nibbles and other fun activities organised for the day. Amenities are available at the finish area.

Free Shuttle Bus

Shuttle buses will be available to transport runners and walkers back down the mountain to entry school. The buses will operate from 10:30am to 12:30pm from the summit. 

Pets:

Dogs on leads are permissible, and must be under control with a lead as a 'back of the pack' walker in the 5k event only.  Maintain strict control, and cleanliness. Note, there is no return bus provided for walkers and dogs, the options are walk back to the start or private transport collection post road opening (11.45am)

Entry Inclusions:

• Official entry / Road closures and traffic control / Event services and insurances.

Strollers, wheelchairs & elderly

Keira Challenge encourages families, although please note: The final one kilometer is a bit steep, and whilst accessible there are two steep hills that may make access with a baby stroller challenging (last year plenty made it safely)..wheelchair participants are advised to contact event coordinators. The return shuttle buses require pram closures.

Weather

Mount Keira Challenge is set to run (or walk) in near all conditions unless severe conditions enforce either 1) route modification or 2) event cancellation. BE PREPARED IN ALL CONDITIONS, rain, wind, sun and all between!

Charity Support

Mount Keira Challenge is a private event which requires entry fees to cover the event operations and the many related services for a safe, fun professional event. In addition a donation is made to support our charity partner, Fearless Outreach along with encouraging participants to opt to fund raise.  Mount Keira Demonstration School will also be operating a fund raising BBQ and food stall.

Be Waste Wise

Our aim is to keep this event environmentally friendly and true to the beautiful natural mountain. 

We advise participants to:    

• Avoid walking off the road for the event.    

• Take own water and food and do not dispose along route.    

• Use start and finish amenity blocks not within the course.    

• Keep all waste with you and dispose after the event or allocated bins at the summit.
